Handrail at Glenwood Gardens
This handrail is made of stainless steel and you can see it in the Highfield Discovery Garden in Glenwood Gardens.
I did all the metal work you see here but I cannot take any credit for the walkway and posts made of artificial wood
I used weld on 90 degree fittings and end caps on this detail work where the rail wraps around the post at the top of the railing.
I used the same 90 degree fittings to form the hoops at the bottom of the railing
Each of the 4 railing sections are about 38 feet long and made of two 20 foot sections of stainless tubing. With the exception of the detail work on the ends and the hoops at the bottom, there is only 1 splice point in each railing section where the two 20 foot tubes are joined. The 2 pictures above show the 4 points where I welded the tubes together (after some cleanup and polishing of course) . I made all of the bends with a pipe bender with the exception of the 90 degree fittings welded on the detail work and on the hoops at the bottom. This was a fun project! I had never done a handrail like this so it took a while to get it figured out but I was able to do it all without wasting a single piece of the stainless tubing!
This video shows a walk through of the finished product along with another close up of the detail on the end and what the welded sections look like after clean up and polishing
